Yokota hosts first OSS Synchronization

Yokota Air Base, Japan --  The 374th Operation Support Squadron hosted the first Operations Support Squadron Synchronization at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Nov. 15-18, 2017.

The OSS sync was established to discuss common issues, disseminate best practices, and produce unified proposals for higher Headquarter requirements.

This being the initial sync, the event primarily focused on setting a baseline understanding of each squadron's organization construct, responsibilities, major concerns/issues, and operation plan execution.

“We determined that we all had similar issues,” said Lt. Col. Richard McElhaney, 374th OSS commander. “We will take these collective concerns and elevate them to the Functional Area Managers with one voice in hopes that our coordinated effort will yield greater positive changes for all.”

During the sync they also toured the airfield and met with 5th Air Force Operations, Plans and Requirements to discuss coordination processes, Command and Control constructs, and airspace issues.

“It was a great opportunity to solicit support from the other units,” said Lt. Col. Kevin Lord, 35th OSS commander. “We were able to discuss and identify complimentary training objectives.”

With an established baseline understanding of each other's operations, the next sync, which is projected to take place in six months, will target 3-5 issues with desired outcomes and measurable effects
