A special agent assigned to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations 6th Field Investigations Squadron received a Bronze Star here Feb. 26 for his service while deployed.

Special Agent Eric O'Keefe, a computer crime investigator, earned the Bronze Star for his work in computer forensics and exploiting digital media while deployed to Southwest Asia from April to October 2007.

"Computer forensics is when we take information that is on a computer or any type of digital media and extract what ever is needed for the mission," Agent O'Keefe said.

During his deployment he worked for a U.S. Army detachment in a joint command billet.

"Being awarded the Bronze Star is significant, but the fact that it was given from the Army to an Air Force person speaks more loudly than any actions that I could have ever done, and it shows how the Air Force has become an important part in the Global War on Terrorism," Agent O'Keefe said.

"My experience in the desert showed me how successful and important it is that we continue down a joint path," he added.
