Overseas Housing Allowance survey: It’s your entitlement

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan --

The survey began Sept. 1 and is available through Oct. 31; it only takes about 40 minutes to complete. You can take the survey here. Once the page is open, click on “take the survey” at the top right corner.

“The OHA Survey gives residents an opportunity to have a say in one of their important overseas entitlements,” said Lt. Col. James Cunningham, 374th Comptroller Squadron commander. “The survey gives members who are living on the local economy an opportunity to tell the Department of Defense how much their actual utility expenses and move-in expenses are, which in turn helps the Department of Defense provide a more accurate payment to members in our area.”

Participation in the survey is optional, but highly encouraged. The survey collects data that is used to determine utility and move-in housing allowances, which are a part of the OHA.

To prepare for the portion of the survey that covers utility expenses, gather your bills or records of utility and recurring maintenance expenses for the last 12 months.  For the portion of the survey that covers move-in expenses, gather bills and any records of expenses associated with making your residence livable.

Like all surveys, the more participation the better, and max participation provides the best picture,” Cunningham said. “The survey is very detailed and covers a plethora of utility expenses, so it takes a few minutes to get it right.

“It's your entitlement...take advantage of this opportunity to make sure it’s accurate for you and your family while you're serving in this beautiful country,” Cunningham added.
