General Wright retires from Air Force
YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- Lt. Gen. Bruce Wright thanks distinguished visitors for their service and friendship during his retirement ceremony Feb. 25. General Wright was the commanding general of U.S. Forces Japan and 5th Air Force from February 2005 to February 2008. General Wright served nearly 35 years in the Air Force. 2/29/2008 - YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan  -- Lt. Gen. Bruce Wright, commanding general of U.S. Forces Japan and 5th Air Force from February 2005 to February 2008, retired from the U.S. Air Force on Feb. 25 after nearly 35 years of service.

Gen. Carrol Chandler, Pacific Air Forces commander, attended the event. He spoke highly of General Wright and wished him luck in his retirement.

"He is not afraid of change," General Chandler said about General Wright. "We're not saying goodbye to him, we are saying God speed."

General Wright's daughter, 1st Lt. Jaina Wright, also spoke at the event and gave praise and thanks to her mother and father.

"You're my father and the most inspirational person," Lt. Wright said. "I look forward to spending more time with you and getting closer."

General Wright said he was happy to be retiring and looked forward to a new part of his life but also expressed his praise for the people he worked with.

"What an honor it has been serving with you," General Wright said. "Every one of you has made me a better human being."
