3/24/2009 - YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- The Patriot Express, a contracted commercial charter mission that provides support for duty travelers and their family members, will change airlines beginning April 3.

World Airways will replace Northwest Airlines as the primary provider for transport on Patriot Express flights, according to Tech. Sgt. Ted LaCroix, 730th Air Mobility Squadron NCO in charge of passenger service.

"Additionally, due to this change, the schedules [and locations] will also change," he said.

Patriot Express missions will leave Seattle each Thursday and stop first at Yokota on Friday before proceeding to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni and Kadena Air Base, Okinawa. After returning to Yokota on Saturday, aircraft will depart the same day for Seattle to complete the round trip.

The changes will affect the number of seats available and space-available roll call times as well, said Sergeant LaCroix.

Northwest Airlines currently operates with A330 aircraft. World Airways will fly DC-10s, which will open up an additional 16 seats, but do away with business class seats.

"The new projected roll call times will be 6:40 a.m. Fridays when travelling to other locations in Japan," Sergeant LaCroix said. "However, if passengers are planning to go back to the states from here, roll call will be at 1:25 p.m. Saturdays."

Passengers must keep in mind that roll call times are subject to change. Travelers can call the passenger terminal by 10 p.m. the night prior to a flight to confirm times.

For more information, call 225-5660 or 225-5661 or visit the Space-Available Travel page for more details.
