4/13/2009 - YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- The base legal office will join more than 500 other national, state and community organizations April 16 in highlighting the importance of advance healthcare decision-making during National Healthcare Decisions Day.

The legal office, located on the first floor of Bldg. 315, will provide information and tools for the base residents to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and execute written advance directives or healthcare powers of attorney and living wills, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"As a result of National Healthcare Decisions Day, many more people in our community can be expected to have thoughtful conversations about their healthcare decisions and complete reliable advance directives to make their wishes known," said Capt. Judd Bean, 374th Airlift Wing Assistant Staff Judge Advocate.

"Fewer families and healthcare providers will have to struggle with making difficult healthcare decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient, and healthcare providers and facilities will be better equipped to address advance healthcare planning issues before a crisis and be better able to honor patient wishes when the time comes to do so," Captain Bean said.

For more information about National Healthcare Decision Day, call the legal office at 225-8069 or visit www.nationalhealthcaredecisionsday.org.
