9/23/2011 - YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- The 374th Security Forces Squadron will be at three locations around Yokota this weekend where base residents can come to register their bicycles.

In accordance with a new policy from the 374th Airlift Wing Instruction 31-204, residents must register all bicycles through the 374th SFS pass and registration office.

"The bicycle registration was initiated to clear abandoned bicycles from base and as a crime prevention measure," said Christopher Hogue, 374th SFS pass and registration office.

Registration will take place from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2:00- 4:00 p.m. in front of the Yokota Community Center, at the base theatre and in front of the Yume Child Development Center.

"The registration process is easy and you do not need to bring the bicycle," said Senior Airman Wilbertson Smith, a member of the 374th SFS pass and registration office. "Simply write down the make, model, color and serial number and bring it to one of the identified registration points on base."

If personnel are unable to attend the registration this weekend, additional registration dates are slated at the same locations on Oct. 15, 16 and 29; or individuals can bring their bicycle information to the pass and registration office in Bldg. 316 to complete the process.

"It's important for base residents to register their bicycles," said Hogue. "Following the registration process, security forces will start to round-up abandoned bicycles."
