Once the SIA at Ft Belvoir receives and processes your DD1056, they will send it back to you (or the servicing Consulate) with a “2D Barcode.”

For the Consulate to process your application, generally you will need:

  • DD1056 with 2D Barcode
  • Passport application form
  • Current Travel Orders
  • Expired/expiring official passport and additional documentation required by Consular services

Two US-sized passport photos: We do not recommend that applicants try to take their own passport photo unless they have access to professional photography equipment.  You can obtain suitable passport photos at any Australia Post outlet, but be sure to ask for US-sized photos because their default will be Australian passport photos, which are too small and cannot be used for US passports.  US passport photos must be 2”x2”, on a white background, no less than 6 months old and the applicant cannot be wearing eyeglasses

One self-addressed Express Post envelope which will be used to mail your new official passport to you.  You can purchase the Large Express Post envelope from Australia Post and we recommend you opt for the signature on delivery feature for added security.

Cost: If you will be required to have an in-person appointment at the consulate for your official passport, you will need to reach out to your service admin section for possible TDY funds.
