YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan --   I recently met with Air Mobility Command leaders at Scott AFB to discuss a variety of important issues. Foremost on everyone's mind, is our Air Force's current force structure and future end strength in light of today's fiscal environment. As Airmen are faced with increasingly tough career decisions, we have a responsibility to provide them the resources they need to be successful. One priority remains clear--we must continue to take care of our Airmen. Now more than ever, we must focus on how we can help past, present and future Airmen.

Our Air Force family extends for generations and no doubt, those who've joined our ranks will continue to grow. Perhaps the most important way we can give back to those who've served--or will serve--is the Air Force Assistance Fund. The fund allows Airmen to help fellow Airmen in times of need. Contributions support Airmen and their families through programs such as emergency assistance, continuing education, and AF retirement communities.

We've set a lofty goal this year, but I know we can reach it. In the weeks ahead, let's give our best to support our fellow Airmen. Let's pay it forward now because we never know when the day may come that we are in need ourselves.
