YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- In recognition of May Fitness Month, the 374th Services Division personnel invites everyone to "Exercise Your Options" during the rest of the month.
"We are offering a number of fitness events here throughout the month of May, including aerobics classes at the Samurai Fitness Center, a free yoga demonstration class at the Taiyo Community Center, bowling clinics and Outdoor Recreation trips," said Capt. Cary Brunger, 374th Services Combat Support Flight commander.
"These events will help you explore the different fitness opportunities that are available to you here on Yokota."
All Status of Forces Agreement residents are invited to participate in this program.
Additionally, there are separate programs for all Yokota Air Base youth.
Each event provides a participation slip which can be used to enter base and Pacific Air Forces giveaways and drawings.
"The more events people attend, the more participation slips they will receive which increases their chances to win great prizes," said Gary Garland, 374th Services Division director.
Another benefit to participating in these events is increasing a person's health.
"Investing in fitness is critical for relieving stress and to ensure you are living the longest and highest quality life possible for you," said Mr. Garland. "How often can you say that you received a prize, just for participating in an active lifestyle and having fun?"
Being fit also helps people to handle life's challenges better and to accomplish the mission at hand.
Base-level prizes and giveaways will be announced and awarded May 18 at 4 p.m. at Snyder Field during Yokota Safety and Sports Day. The Yokota Safety and Sports Day runs from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and has been designated as an alternate duty location for the day.
"However, people can continue to attend fitness month activities that will continue to count toward PACAF level drawings for a Life Fitness Life Cycle or a Nautilus SelectTech dumbbell set with stand," said Mr. Garland. The drawing to see who moves forward to represent Yokota in PACAF level drawings will be held May 31.
"Starting a healthy lifestyle early in life is important as well," said Mr. Garland. "Youth who start healthy habits now will carry those habits with them into adulthood." Recognizing that, 374 SVS is offering a local "Exercise Your Options" program for youth ages 9 to 18.
Special events include tours of the Health and Wellness Center, a bicycle rally, Boys & Girls Clubs of America basketball challenges, daily FitFactor challenges and more.
The youth program will run through May 19 with local prizes awarded at the end of the America's Kids Fun Run. Schedules for all "Exercise Your Options" events can be found in the May Horizons, on the Web at www.yokotaservices.org.
