Typhoon Lan Preparation Published Aug. 11, 2023 Team Yokota, The Wing is continuing to monitor Typhoon Lan as it approaches mainland Japan, with the storm likely to have an impact to Yokota AB beginning the evening of August 13 (Sunday) or the morning of August 14 (Monday) . Due to the current projected path of the storm, we are not currently initiating a Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR), but we will continue to assess Typhoon Lan’s potential impact and inform our base community as necessary to ensure safety. At this time, we are asking our entire Yokota community to be aware of the following: * Please continue to pay special attention to weather warnings and ensure you are receiving information from official sources, including national weather services and base announcements. * Prepare yourself, your families, and your teammates. Some things you can do are: * Create an emergency kit and ensure you store enough water and non-perishable food items in the event of any shelter-in-place notifications. * Familiarize yourself and others with emergency contact numbers. * Keep updated with weather alerts and monitor the official Yokota website and social media pages. * Create individual and family plans that consider safe travel routes, immediate family communications, ensuring care of vital records and considerations for pets. * Make an assessment and take action to prevent any damage to your belongings or residence. Secure items that may be damaged or cause damage during heavy rain or high winds. These include: * Large items: Outdoor furniture, trampolines, sheds * Smaller items: Umbrellas, bicycles, outdoor lights * Be aware of possible flooding to low-lying areas. * Avoid unnecessary travel in times of inclement weather. * Pay special attention when driving through critical roadways, to include the South Overrun.
