A 'fresh' idea for Fukushima
ONAHAMA, Japan -- Contractors from theTokyo Electric Power Company and Blair Smith, from the REL Group in Australia, piece together a water pump system to transport fresh water into the Fukushima nuclear power plant March 28, 2011. The system of high pressure pumps and hoses will be used to spray freshwater from barges onto the plant. Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force vessels towed the barges full of freshwater from Yokosuka to the site. Eight Yokota Airmen designed and created necessary adapters, pressure valves and other pieces of equipment to modify the pumps for the mission. (U.S. Air Force photo/Osakabe Yasuo)
