Taking part in Tanabata
FUSSA, Japan – Airmen from Yokota Air Base carry a portable Shinto shrine during the 59th Annual Fussa Tanabata Festival Aug. 7. The shrine, called a Mikoshi, translates as “cloud burst” in English. More than 40 Airmen carry the shrine each year during the festival, also known as the “star festival.” According to Chinese legend, the two stars Altair and Vega, usually separated from each other by the Milky Way galaxy, meet up in the night sky on the same day each year.
