C-130 Aircraft
YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- C-130 Hercules aircraft of the 36th Airlift Squadron wait on the flightline Dec. 29 for their next mission. The numbers and letters located on the vertical stabilizer fins are called "tail markings" and are used to identify where the aircraft are assigned. This technique dates back to World War II and is still used today to identify aircraft assigned to operational wings. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Brian Kimball)
