Purple Heart Day 5K
Master Sgt. Ryan Hines (center), 374th Logistics Readiness Squadron Fuels Environmental Safety Office section chief, and members of Team Yokota run during a 5K on Purple Heart Day at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Aug. 7, 2019. In 2011, while assigned to Forward Operating Base Smart in Zabul Province, Hines and his team were attacked by improvised explosive devises and suicide bombers while returning to base. After regaining consciousness he directed other Airmen to their defensing fighting positions.
