US, Japan military leaders showcase partnership with Japanese tradition

A team of volunteers dip freshly pounded rice dough into a peanut powder coating at the Operation Support Wing annual mochi pounding ceremony on Dec. 14, 2022, Yokota Air Base, Japan. Mochi is a traditional Japanese rice cake that is made just in time for the New Year and is widely considered a symbol for health and prosperity. The rice was pounded until it became a firm gelatin-like substance that was ripped apart and shaped into snack-sized treats by hand. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech Sgt. Taylor A. Workman)
