Yokota Air Base, Japan -- Members from the U.S. Embassy held an outreach event in the Enlisted Club at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Feb. 28, 2018.
This event provided Yokota personnel with the opportunity to turn in important documents to either keep their family together or to initiate important applications.
“Having the embassy visit our base ensured Yokota personnel could take care of some important tasks they need without having to travel multiple hours to the embassy,” said Master Sgt. Jamar Selvy, 374th Force Support Squadron career development superintendent.
The outreach event was split into three sections; tourist passports, immigrant visas and federal benefits.
For the tourist passports, people were able to turn in their passport applications with the necessary supporting documents. More information on this can be found at www.yokota.af.mil in the support tab section on the right side.
With the immigrant visa section, the embassy members accepted the I-130 petition from a U.S. citizen and/or active duty member assigned to Japan along with the supporting documents for their spouse, child or parent who lives with them in Japan. In the federal benefits sections, they accepted applications for things such as Social Security Numbers, replacement cards and name changes. More information on this can be found at https://jp.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/
“The embassy provided a great opportunity for my wife and me with our green card and visa process,” said Staff Sgt. Rainier Quade, 374th Civil Engineer Squadron structural journeyman. “Having this event was important because it allow myself and other service members to have easier access to asking questions and it sped up the long process of filing for an immigration visa.”
Members from the Military Personnel Flight are hoping to continue this event to help provide Yokota personnel with this service.
“We are looking to doing this on a quarterly basis from here on out,” Selvy said. “We were able to see what went well and what we need to work on to improve the process for when we hold this in the future.”
