Yokota pool to reopen soon

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan --  Members of the 374th Civil Engineer Squadron and contractors work hard to improve the quality of life for base personnel.

Recently the 374 CES closed the Yokota Air Base Natatorium pool to make repairs and ensure the longevity of the facility.

According to Staff Sgt. Layton Little, 374th Civil Engineer Squadron service contract manager, it started first with cracks and failing seals. Those cracks in turn caused water leakage down into the basement, eventually corroding the pipes due to the high chlorine level.

“We are trying to stop all water leakage,” said Little. “If we let the water keep going in the basement, it is going to destroy everything down there. So the goal is to keep the pool in as good a shape as we can, for as long as we can, but also to protect all the assets we have down the basement.”

Currently, almost all the repair work is done on the pool area and also on the basement. The 374 CES is now doing final inspections to ensure everything is working properly.
