Earth Week at Yokota April 24, 2023

Yokota’s 374th Force Support Squadron rallied members of the community to celebrate “Earth week” through a series of events, April 15 - 23, at Yokota Air Base, Japan.

“The objective of these FSS events is to show love to the Earth,” said D’Marco Wilkerson Jr., 374th FSS recreation coordinator. “We wanted to incorporate the three R’s; Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, and teach people how to lower the footprint we leave behind.”

The week’s events included a trout fishing derby, walk for Earth, Leave No Trace workshop, Community garden planting, and an afternoon of themed crafts.

“We're using the Earth week events, Walk for Earth and community garden, as locations to enlighten people on how to protect and keep our planet clean,” said Paige Powell, 374th FSS project lead. “These events are a way to show people how to ‘Leave No Trace’ and enjoy nature, in a way that doesn’t destroy it for the next person.”

The Earth week event coordinators stress the importance of understanding how to operate when going into the wilderness, how to pack in and pack out and reduce the use of unsustainable goods, to lower the carbon footprint we have on our planet.

The 374th FSS integrates community events to bolster the morale of the local populace, keep a look out for upcoming Yokota events on the 374th FSS Facebook page and https://yokotafss.com/events
