U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 374th Airlift Wing salute as the national anthem plays during a Veterans Day ceremony at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Nov. 7, 2024. The ceremony was held to commemorate the temporary ceasefire between Allied nations and Germany during the first World War on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. After World War II and the Korean War, the observance was expanded to recognize all U.S. military veterans, evolving into what is known as Veterans Day today.
