Yokota recommences heating due to inclement weather Published April 3, 2013 374th Airlift Wing/Public Affairs YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- In light of cooler-than-expected seasonal temperatures, 374th Airlift Wing leadership decided to recommence heating in all base facility and housing units April 3, 2013. The decision to reduce heating on base helped offset costs associated with current budgetary challenges affecting the Department of Defense. The early No Heat/No Cool initiative saved Yokota approximately $1 million in heating costs during March, which will enable the base to conduct mandatory boiler maintenance, said Col. Mark August, 374th Airlift Wing commander. "We've come to a point where we've recouped significant savings by implementing the program early, but the continued trend of temperatures necessitates heating," August said. "I sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding from the base community." Heating will remain on until April 15, at which point, the 374th Civil Engineer Squadron will begin its annual heating, ventilation and air conditioning infrastructure maintenance before switching systems for the air conditioning season.
