An 11-p.m.-to-5-a.m. curfew is in effect as of 19 Oct. for all uniformed military members assigned or on temporary duty to, or on leave at, Yokota Air Base.

U.S. military members living on base must remain inside the gate after that time; those who live off base or who are assigned to Yokota on temporary duty must remain in their place of residence or hotel room, respectively.

"This policy is part of a broader United States Forces, Japan response to an alleged assault of a female Japanese citizen involving U.S. servicemembers in Okinawa, Japan," said Col. Mark August, 374th Airlift Wing commander.

"I want to echo the televised remarks Lt. Gen. Angelella made today by saying that the intent of this policy is to safeguard the vital relationship we have with our friends and allies in Japan," August said.

The policy applies to all military personnel, regardless of permanent change of station, temporary duty, pass or leave status. Those with special circumstances (for example, an early plane ride, base ITT trip or mission requirement) need a signed a letter from the first O-6 commander in their chain.

The curfew is punishable under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice.

As an installation-wide policy, the curfew also applies to geographically separate locations like Tama Hills.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
