AFSEC launches Critical Days of Summer website, campaign Published June 5, 2012 By Senior Airman Katrina R. Menchaca 374th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- Summer is most commonly associated with warm weather and an increase in outdoor activities, but it's also the time of year when the Air Force experiences the majority of its mishaps and fatalities off duty. To combat this trend, the Air Force Safety Center launched the 2012 Critical Days of Summer safety campaign, May 25. This year's theme, "Safety - It's Personal," is a reminder that safety is everyone's responsibility, and the decisions people make impact friends, families and the Air Force community. In an effort to enhance awareness of risk management decision-making with informative videos and articles, the AFSEC has launched the CDS public webpage to help everyone enjoy a mishap-free summer. This interactive site contains tools and features to help remind all that even one loss is too many. "So far this year, there have been zero fatal mishaps at Yokota -- our challenge for the Critical Days of Summer is to continue this positive trend," said Capt. John Park, 374th Airlift Wing Chief of Flight Safety. "Yokota has a strong wingman culture, we can attribute our zero fatalities to people looking out for each other and encouraging good judgment while off-duty. "Whether you are a commander, supervisor, or a first-term Airman, remember that we are all Airmen," he added. "As the summer progresses please continue to take care of each other off-duty so we can all take care of the mission on-duty."
