Airmen under 26 required to complete travel training Published Jan. 12, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Katrina R. Menchaca 374th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- Ticket purchased: check. Bags packed: check. ID and passport: check. Copy of an Air Force Form 4392... Airmen, age 26 and under, regardless of rank, planning to travel throughout the year are reminded to get with their supervisor and complete the Air Force Form 4392, Pre-Departure Safety Briefing, before departing on leave, temporary duty or permanently changing station. (Air Force Instruction 91-202, attachment 11) "Our military strength lies in the safety of our personnel," said Lt. Lt. Col. James Hackbarth, Chief of Safety for the 374 Airlift Wing. "As such, it is important for Airmen and their supervisors to discuss activities and their associated hazards prior to traveling." During a pre-departure briefing, supervisors should review and advise Airmen of the risks involved with their individual travel arrangements and activities. The supervisor helps to determine which risks are acceptable and unacceptable from the standpoint of balancing benefits against the potential for accidental losses or harm. Supervisors of Airmen 26 years of age and under are required by the safety office to hold onto the AF Form 4392 for 30 days after the individual returns from leave, temporary duty location, or after they check-in following a PCS. "Safety is no accident -- planning, risk assessment and thinking ahead are all vital to safety in the workplace, around the house and on the road," said Hackbarth.
