374th AW commander urges Yokota to reduce power consumption Published Aug. 17, 2011 374th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- As part of ongoing power reduction efforts in partnership with the government of Japan, Yokota has been operating with a goal of keeping the peak power consumption to 15 percent below the peak consumption used in 2010. Unfortunately, Yokota did not meet this goal Aug. 16-17. According to Col. Otto Feather, 374th Airlift Wing commander, if Yokota continues to operate above the set goal, the base will be forced to shut off air conditioning in many of the support facilities to ensure we continue to meet our peak power reduction goal. To avoid doing this, especially when hot and humid weather is forecasted, base residents and personnel are reminded that cooperation and increased vigilance with energy conservation efforts, especially from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays, is of extreme importance. Recommended ideas for power conservation at home include: - For units with thermostat temperature control, set to no lower than 78 F or 25 C - For units with fan controls, set to lowest fan speed setting - Minimize activities that use electricity from noon to 5 p.m., including cooking, laundry, washing dishes and ironing Recommended ideas for power conservation at work centers include: - Set office thermostat controls to no lower than 78 F or 25 C - Turn off all unnecessary lighting and unplug equipment that is not in use - Reschedule high electrical use operations to hours that do not fall within the peak load hour timeframe By doing our part to reduce power consumption at work and at home, Yokota can help support our off-base community partners.
