The Yokota tax center opened its doors Feb. 8, to offer free income tax assistance to active duty members, Reservists and civilian employees of the Department of Defense, as well as their dependents.

The tax center is located across from the Legal office on the first floor of the 374th Wing Headquarters building (building 315). To schedule an appointment, individuals should call 225-4927.

The hours of operation for the tax center are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and closed Fridays.

For individuals who may require additional income tax assistance due to certain assests or additional income, the tax center offers information about paid preparers.

To ensure all tax returns are correct, tax center representatives ask that each customer bring all of the required documentation needed to prepare their tax paperwork when they arrive for their appointment.

Military members can view and print a copy of their DFAS W-2s by visiting the myPay website at https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx.

The tax center will be open through mid-June due to the two-month tax filing extension authorized for personnel stationed overseas.

Additional information regarding income taxes, to include forms and publications, can be found by visiting the Internal Revenue Service website at http://www.irs.gov/.
