Yokota Air Base offers plenty of programs to expectant mothers to make sure they are comfortable and well taken care of.

The Airman and Family Readiness Center offers a class called "Bundles for Babies," where expectant mothers receive free goodies such as a certificate for free Infant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training. Family Advocacy offers a class called "Baby Care Basics," where they go over all the information you will need to know, from paperwork to circumcision to breast feeding. Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) also offers classes for expectant mothers. For more information on these programs call 225-5171.

Senior Airman Semaj Everette, an aircraft part store journeyman for the 374th Logistics Readiness Squadron, is expecting her first child. When she first found out about her pregnancy, she had no idea about the programs offered for expectant mothers. When she went to her first appointment with the OB/GYN, she was given a list of available classes that could help her throughout her pregnancy.

"I took all of the classes that were offered to me," said Airman Everette. "Every bit helped."

There are also programs offered to expectant mothers and mothers who have already given birth, like Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and the Child Development Center.
Airman Everette is currently using WIC and plans to for as long as she can. She also intends to use the CDC.

Although Airman Everette has had an easy transition and has received a lot of support from family, friends and co-workers, she has hit a few rough patches.

"I had to wait a month to receive housing," said Airman Everette. "In the end it was worth it; they offered me what I needed and wanted."

Through everything, she mostly felt support. She was especially pleased with Yokota's medical staff.

"The medical staff has really helped ease a lot of stress when it comes down to my baby's health," said Airman Everette.

In reference to her delivery method preference, Airman Everette said, "I really feel that the doctors will work with me to make my preferences possible."

When asked about her overall experience, Airman Everette had a positive response.

"My pregnancy has been fun and very interesting," Airman Everette said. "I wouldn't change a thing."
