The 374th Civil Engineer Squadron Pest Management Shop is opening its doors to the public for the first time.

Beginning May 4, housing residents and facility managers will be able to pick up self-help pest control products at building 1394, located on the east side of base near the north overrun.

"The change was made to meet new environmental standards," said Capt. Devi Chien, 374th CES operations flight acting commander. "Our pest control products can no longer be stored with the regular products we offer at Self-Help."

Prior to June 2009, DoD and Air Force Instructions on the self-help program were less restrictive and allowed for all self-help products to be stored and issued from one central location. However, recent revisions have resulted in a need to relocate all pest control products to the 374th CES Pest Management facility.

To gain access to the facility, customers will need to use the call box located at the facility's parking lot.

Although Capt. Chien admits the transition may cause some growing pains, she said Yokota's pest management professionals are willing and able to meet customer needs.

"The point of moving the product is to ensure compliance with the pest management regulation established by the DoD and the Air Force," said Tech. Sgt. Charles Curnutte, Pest Management NCO in charge. "This ensures we're providing effective pest control while minimizing environmental impacts."

The 374th CES Pest Management Self-Help store is open every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
