Bean Throwing Ceremony
HINO, Japan -- Denna Caro, wife of Chief Master Sgt. Ben Caro, 374th Airlift Wing command chief, puts on a "Kamishimo", a formal piece of clothing worn by a samurai or a Japanese warrior, during the bean throwing ceremony at Takahata Fudo Temple Feb. 3. During the ceremony, people throw roasted soybeans while shouting "Fu ku wa uchi," which means, "Come in happiness". It is believed that if you eat the number of beans equal to your age, you will have a happy and healthy life. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Sean Martin)
