Airmen here recently pitched in to help clean up their own community through an initiative called "Troops for Trash."

Representing Yokota's First Four, an organization for the first four enlisted ranks on base, 15 Airmen spent two hours picking up trash Oct. 25 on the east side of base near the movie theater, Yuko Park and along the roadside.

"I think Troops for Trash is a good event to get Airmen involved in the community," said Senior Airman Lacey Garcia, an organizer of the first-ever event.

Senior Airman Anou Souvannavong, 374th Maintenance Squadron, and currently deployed, came up with the volunteer opportunity as a way for Airmen to socialize with each other and help clean up the base.

"Our goal is to improve base appearance, have fun and foster camaraderie among the volunteers," said Airman 1st Class Daniel McAlister, 374th MXS.

According to Airman 1st Class Mary Simpson, 374th MXS, Yokota's first four plans to do projects similar to this twice a month.

"I hope with this success we can motivate more Airmen on base to show their support," said Senior Airman Terrence Ashton, 374th Communications Squadron.

Yokota's First Four meets at 3 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month at the Yujo Community Center to discuss junior enlisted issues and plan volunteer opportunities.

"Our purpose is to improve quality of life for E-4 and below on Yokota Air Base," said Airman Garcia. "We also provide opportunities for Airmen to volunteer and get involved with activities on base."
