The quality of the water on Yokota Air Base and the Tama Hills Recreational Annex is excellent, according to findings detailed in the annual Consumer Confidence Report.

The report was released June 15 by 374th Aerospace Medicine Squadron's Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight here.

The report is required by the Safe Drinking Water Surveillance Program regulation, Air Force Instruction 48-144, which states that all overseas bases must comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act. The law requires all community water systems to deliver a water quality report each year to their customers.

The report contains information on Yokota and Tama's water system and the sources of water at these locations. Also included is a statement from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and information about guidelines for contamination levels, which outlines the possible contaminants that can be found in Yokota and Tama's water sources.

The water systems at both locations are operated and maintained by the 374th Civil Engineering Squadron and monitored on a routine basis by the bioenvironmental engineering flight.

Bioenvironmental engineers monitor the water systems for various contaminants to meet U.S. regulatory requirements and to ensure the water complies with Japanese governing standards. The quality of the water produced, sample collection, sample results and all other data pertaining to these systems is collected and maintained by the bioenvironmental engineering flight.

The bioenvironmental engineering flight must also ensure the system is operating effectively.
