The Yokota Health and Wellness Center held a running clinic Jan. 23. The class is run and taught by Capt. Joseph Williams who hopes to help people who are struggling with their physical training tests and teach them simple ways to improve their times and have fun.

"I want to get people passionate about running and be able to help them do better on their run times," he said. "I also hope they are able to find the enjoyment in running."

Captain Williams previously held similar clinics at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., and Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea.

Captain Williams plans to hold the class every quarter, but will increase the frequency if there is high enough demand.

"[The class] is geared toward the people who are struggling with running," Captain Williams said. "They'll find ways to improve and it provides good info to help them achieve their goals."

Captain Williams hopes that this will help alleviate the stress put on those people who are worried about failing their run.

The class also includes information on injury prevention, body fluid and nutrition needs, and a number of work-out routines to help improve run times.

Captain Williams did offer his two favorite tips to help people improve their run times.

"You should get two running buddies because they can help keep you entertained and energized while running," he said. "Also, you want running shoes that work with your feet. I see people running all the time with basketball shoes. By simply switching to running shoes, you could shave 15 or more seconds off your run time."
