Death of a Yokota AB Airman

An Airman assigned to the 374th Airlift Wing was found dead in Shimoda, Japan, on Aug. 20, 2025.

“Today is a difficult day for Team Yokota,” said Col. Richard McElhaney, 374th Airlift Wing commander. “Thank you to our installation law enforcement officials and local community partners within the Shimoda Police Service for their assistance. Those affected are on the front of our minds, and our base support agencies are standing by to support members of the community suffering from this loss.”

Next-of-kin have been notified. Out of respect for the Airman’s loved ones, the name will be withheld from release until at least 24 hours after next-of-kin notifications.
