Yokota celebrates Tanabata Festival with local community Aug. 7, 2026

More than 60 Team Yokota volunteers participated in the annual mikoshi carry during the 76th Annual Fussa Tanabata Festival in Fussa, Japan, Aug. 7, 2026. The 374th Airlift Wing’s mikoshi, a portable Shinto shrine, was carried through the festival alongside local residents, continuing a community tradition that dates back to 1975. After a six-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, the mikoshi was restored by Airmen from the 374th Civil Engineer Squadron and returned to the festival in 2025. U.S. service members continued the tradition in 2026 by carrying the mikoshi alongside members of the Fussa community, reinforcing a longstanding connection between Yokota Air Base and Fussa City.
