Yokota dorms continue to see improvement

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan --  Recent dormitory renovations projects here ensure Airmen are well cared for and that their quality of life remains a top priority.

Over $1.7 million has been spent of improvements to the dorms since early 2015. Many dorm optimizations have been completed this month.

"We are always looking to make the living situation of our Airmen more enjoyable and convenient," said 2nd Lt. Timothy Plourde, 374th Civil Engineer Squadron lead programmer.

Amongst the number of improvements to the dorms included the installation of fiber internet, new carpet and a fresh coat of paint for the dorm's interior.

Each dorm's dayroom has also received a number of upgrades, including: new televisions, sofas and pool tables.

"We take suggestions from Airmen on what improvements they would like to see and do our best to try and implement those improvements," Harrison said. "For example, the addition of pool tables was a direct result of Airmen's feedback."

"While the immediate optimizations of the dorm have been completed this month, additional improvements are still underway.

Amongst the renovations that have yet take place include replacing the current locks found in the dorms with hotel-style key locks.

"By using magnetic cards in place of current keys, carrying your key will become much more conventient," said Master Sgt. Salina A. Harrison, 374th CES unaccompanied housing superintendent.

New industrial sized washer and dryers, nametags for doors and free Wi-Fi for each dorm's dayroom are all scheduled for implementation later this year.

"I've had Airmen come to my office just to say thank you," Harrison said. "They like the improvements that have been made thus far. I'm excited about what we've done so far but I'm just as excited about what we're going to accomplish in the future."
