Volcanic Alert Information Published June 30, 2015 374th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- At 1230 p.m., Mount Hakone, about 38 miles southwest of Yokota Air Base, was elevated from Volcanic Alert Level 2 to level 3, which dictates a 700 meter evacuation zone around the perimeter of the volcano. At this time there are no projected eruptions, ash, or impacts to base flight operations. However, below are actions members of Yokota Air Base should consider to prepare for the possibility of further volcanic activity. Fresh volcanic ash can damage property and poses a potential health risk. For further updates on this situation, continue to monitor the official command channels such as the Yokota Air Base Facebook page, the Commander's Access Channel, www.yokota.af.mil and the Eagle 810 radio station for up to date information. Actions to Consider: - Close entrance doors to facilities - Cover outdoor items that will need to be protected from ash cover to avoid damage - Move vulnerable items indoors to protect them from ash fall - Turn off all non-critical HVAC systems - Lock/close exterior doors and windows (cars/houses) - Ensure you have vacuums available to assist with cleanup - Assemble an emergency supply kit.
