Volunteers from the 374th Civil Engineer Squadron and 374th Medical Group recently teamed up to renovate Yokota Air Base's Airman's Attic.

The Airmen built a new frame around the attic's existing roof structure, installed metal-framed walls and constructed a new awning.

"This was all volunteer work on people's free time" said Tech. Sgt. Frank Uecker, 374 CES, noncommissioned officer in charge of pavements and equipment.

The roof is built to last, featuring side panels made of corrugated metal and steel doors coated with zinc. The improved structure provides a dry working area for Airman's Attic volunteers, while preventing water damage to donated items. The new additions also help secure items once they are organized by volunteers.

"The Airman's Attic renovation is simply amazing," said Col. Mark August, 374th Airlift Wing commander. "These improvements are an incredible example of Airmen taking care of Airmen through leadership, volunteerism and professionalism. Anyone who saw what the facility looked like a year ago would be impressed with the clean-up, renovation, changes and improvement from the drop off area. The donation from the Top 3 and the amount of volunteer hours made this change possible."

Starting Aug. 26, the Airman's Attic hours of operation are slated to change, with donations only accepted during business hours. Those interested in donating can leave items at the drop-off location behind the building under the awning.

The Airman's Attic new hours of operation are:

Tuesday: 5 to 7 p.m.
Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thursday: 5 to 7 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
