Day 2: Patient simulators provide life-like training
Tech. Sgt. Shonteau Travis, medical technician 55th Medical Operations Squadron Offutt AFB, NE, and Col. Tim Robinette (far left), 374th Medical Group commander Yokota Air Base, Japan, check the pulse of a METI iStan patient simulator during the Expeditionary Medical Support Course conducted by the U.S. Air Force school of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks City-Base, TX, Feb. 3. Students are introduced to the METI, iStan, patient simulator in preparation for the validation exercise during Expiditionary Medical Support Course training conducted by the US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine. Controlled wirelessly by an instructor, the iStan patient simulator provides true to life anatomical articulation, the skin mimics human skin; real chest, heart and bowel sounds; the ability to excrete fluids; along with simulating jugular vein distention and bilateral chest movement.
