Presented for excellence, the winner of the Diamond Sharp Award, is voted among the Yokota’s First Sergeant Council to recognize those who gone above and beyond in helping others.

First sergeants nominate individuals for the award, and nominees don’t have to be from within their unit. The first sergeants bring their nominee’s name, achievements and reasons why the nominee deserves the award.

The council then discuss and votes on the best candidate.
Fumie Kobayashi, 374th Civil Engineering Squadron force management chief and winner of the Diamond Sharp Award, was chosen among her peers to receive this award for the help she provides to 374 CES Airmen and the local community.

“She goes above and beyond to lead from the front,” said Master Sgt. Samnang Lay, 374 CES interim first sergeant. “She uses her professionalism and excellence to help the Airmen.”

Advising 374 CES leadership on overall management and personnel issues, and coordinating volunteer opportunities are some of the things she does to help others.

“I want to provide Airmen the opportunity to help others,” said Kobayashi. “I want them to get out and volunteer. Some even bring their friends and families to volunteer in a local orphanage or hospital”

“I believe in what the Air Force is doing here,” she added. “I want us to have a good relationship with the local communities.”
