YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- The Yokota tax center is slated to open Feb. 13 for Yokota service members E-4 and below. The center will handle service members' W-2 forms and other tax return needs. Members won't be able to schedule appointments until Feb. 6.
This is the first time the tax center has limited customers due to rank.
"We want to help everyone, but just can't because of the low amount of volunteers," said Staff Sgt. Rebecca Jordan, 374th Airlift Wing Justice Advocate NCO in charge of the tax center.
The center will be open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will not accept walk-ins.
In order to process customers' tax information, they must bring the following to their appointment:
· Social security card or individual tax identification number
· 2011 tax forms
· Print out of banking information
All tax center volunteers have been trained by the Internal Revenue Service, and staff members will be standing by to help in any way they can.
"To individuals who are new to the work force, income taxes can be intimidating and feel complicated," said Staff Sgt. Richard Brown, 374th AW JA paralegal. "The tax center helps in making taxes more understandable and manageable."
