The Yokota Chief's Group held a fundraiser in the form of a push-up/sit-up contest at the Samurai Fitness Center here, June 25.

The contest, which was held to determine who could complete the most push-ups or sit-ups in 10 minutes, helped to raise money for the Enlisted Village and for the Chief's Group in order to improve the quality of life for Airmen.

Staff Sgt. Kevin Williams, a 374th Communications Squadron client systems technician, was ready to compete and got involved because he thought the event supported a good cause.

"I pretty much thought I could beat everybody because I had a PT test I was preparing for," said Sergeant Williams. "I would definitely compete again, because this was for a good cause."

Chief James Cornell, 374th Maintenance Group superintendent, believed that the event wasn't just for a good cause; he believed it improved the fitness levels of the participants.

"This event enhances our physical fitness and is a fun way to come out and challenge each other," said Chief Cornell.

Tech. Sgt. Duan McMillan, a fitness assessment tester for the 374th Force Support Squadron, wanted to challenge himself by participating in the event.

"I wanted to do something like this to test myself because I've been doing my own work outs and I wanted to see how far they could prepare me for contests such as this," said Sergeant McMillan. "I did 190 push-ups and 240 sit-ups."

Participants in the contest helped raise money by having people pledge specific dollar amounts for the amount of push-ups and sit-ups they did. The participants were encouraged to raise the most money for their squadron with the promise of prizes for the winners.

Sergeant McMillan feels that the event was good for morale and inspiring people.

"It's a chance to influence yourselves and others," said Sergeant McMillan. "It gives you the chance to lead by example and a chance for people to follow in the same role and format as you would follow."
