Palace Chase is an active duty program that allows Airmen who have served a portion of their current enlistment to transition into the Air Force Reserve or the Air National Guard where they would complete their service commitment.

If an Airman is interested in applying for the Palace Chase program, there are a few things they need to know.

To be eligible for the program an Airman needs to have a passing physical training score, no major disciplinary issues and not be on a medical profile.

"We look for the same things as active duty recruiters," said Master Sgt. Jeffrey Walker, 374th Force Support Squadron Air Force Reserve in-service recruiter. "We want people that have the whole person concept, that are maintaining their professional military education and who are ambitious in their career."

Timing is important in regards to Palace Chase for many reasons. For example, while a first term Airman with a four-year contract can apply after two years, they would be losing part of their G.I. bill benefits. Overseas applicant's eligibility is also determined by their date eligible for return from overseas.

Walker recommends that those interested in transitioning should begin researching their options and asking questions as soon as possible.

"That way we can answer their questions so they'll know when they can apply," Walker said. "Or if they are eligible, we can go ahead and tell them what they need to do."

After the application has been submitted it will be reviewed by the Air Force Personnel Center at Randolph Air Base, Texas. They determine whether to accept the application based on the Airman's merit and the manning of their career field.

According to Walker active duty members apply for Palace Chase for many reasons such as education, a civilian career or to be closer to family.

For those seeking another way to continue serving in the United States Air Force, Palace Chase maybe the program that's right for them. More information on the exact requirements for Palace Chase can be found in AFI 36-3205 or by contacting Walker at 225-6388.
