Establishing a local Bank Account

Members will need to establish a local bank account to handle day-to-day costs.   Please check locally to see which bank suits your needs.

To establish a bank account you will need:

  • Human Resources Letter (provided by 337th ASUF)
  • ID (e.g. passport, driver’s license, etc.)

Cashier services

If your agency pays into this service, you will be allowed to use it.  Check with 337th FM to verify.

Members are allowed to cash/deposit U.S. checks into their local bank account.  You are entitled a weekly transaction of $9,000USD, but only $1,000USD in cash.

Example: 

You can transfer $8,000 into your Australian bank account and receive $1,000 in cash.

The Cashiers at the Embassy and Consulates are open for business per the following schedule:

Embassy: 9:30am to 12:30pm, Monday through Friday

Consulate Sydney: 10:00am to 1:00pm, Monday through Friday

Consulate Melbourne:  9:30am to 11:30am, Monday through Friday

Consulate Perth:  9:00am to 11:00am and 1:00pm to 2:30pm, Monday through Friday

Driver License

Members are required to obtain a local driver’s license within 90 days of arrival into country.  To find the location nearest you, click on one of the links below.

Purchasing a Vehicle

Private Sale: Ensure you request a Road Worthy Certificate (RWC) as this will be required when registering your vehicle.

Car Dealer: Most car dealerships will already have an RWC included in the cost

Vehicle Registration (Rego)

Upon purchasing your vehicle, it will need to be registered with your local department of motor vehicles.  These have different names in each State or territory (e.g. Access Canberra)

If you shipped a POV, you will need to provide the department of motor vehicles a copy of your vehicle import approval (VIA). 

Cell Phones

When signing up for a cell phone you will need:

  • Human Resources Letter (provided by 337th ASUF)
  • ID (e.g. passport, CONUS driver’s license, etc.)
