Recycling & Trash

The base residents and workers are responsible to presort trash prior to the disposal. Please follow the information for each category below and any labels placed on trash containers.

NO OFF-BASE TRASH IS ALLOWED ON BASE.

Yokota residents are responsible for presorting trash prior to disposal in accordance with Environmental Management guidelines. Proper sorting helps reduce incinerated waste and supports recycling efforts. Residents should follow the instructions for each waste category and adhere to any labels placed on trash containers. Recyclables

Items	Description
Glass	Glass bottles & Jars: Take off caps and rinse out any food/liquid.
Plastics	PETE/PET Bottles are appropriately marked on the bottom. Take off caps & labels, rinse out any liquid. (Caps can be donated and labels are non-cyclable).
Metals	Food & Drink Cans: Rinse out any food/liquid. Any items with metal parts.

Paper Products

Used Clothes
Put in a clear bag.

Items	Description
Newspaper	Tie with string or put in a box.
Magazines, Books	Tie with string or put in a box.
Cardboards, Milk Carton	Cardboard: Cereal, Detergent, Soda Boxes, etc... Corrugated Cardboard: Must be flattened. Milk Carton: Rinse out any liquid.
Shredded Paper (strip cut)	Do not include non-paper materials such as CDs, DVDs, laminated paper, etc...
Others	Color papers, color-printed papers, notebooks, calendars, wrapping papers, paper bags, etc... Do NOT include any paper with food, glue, cellophane or chemically treated.

Place beside dumpster or curb-side.
Non-recyclables
Anything not listed above (i.e., fine chinaware, perfume and lotion bottles, drinking glasses, plastic toys, light bulbs, food waste, styrofoam tray, ash, etc...)

Items	Description
Aerosol Cans, Small Gas Canisters	This category is for Yokota military family housing residents only. More than half remaining properly-labeled US-made nonflammable items such as cleaners (laundry detergent, window cleaner, etc...) can be brought for free issue to residents. For hazardous waste used for business, contact base environmental office.

Collection & Disposal Areas for certain items
- Toner/ink cartridges and small batteries from home can be taken to collection points at YCC, GSA Mart and You Fix It Store (bldg 930).
- Take books to the base library for donation (225-7490).
- Fluorescent bulbs and dry small batteries from offices need to be taken to Hazardous Waste (HW) office, Bldg 955 at 225-7736 for recycling.
- Free issue program for household hazardous materials. More than 1/2 remaining properly labeled US made nonflammable items such as cleaners (Windex, Ajex, Laundry Detergent, etc.) can be brought for free issue to residents. Pesticides are not included in the free issue program. All items issued from the Self-Help Store (Paint etc.), and burned-out fluorescent bulbs should be taken back to the Self-Helf Store (Bldg 800, 225- 7086).
- Auto Batteries: AAFES BX Garage (Bldg 1293, 214-261-2114)*Consult w Environmental (225-5440) for special types of batteries.
- AAFES Propane Gas Tanks for Barbecue Grills: Return to Shoppette (Bldg 455, 225-2981)
- Automobile Oils: Auto Hobby Shop (Bldg 4086, 225-7623)
Safety & Sanitary Concern
- Flush pets' and baby's excrements down the toilet. Pet litter, diaper wastes other than excrements, and sanitary napkins should be disposed of as non-recyclable. The litter and napkins should be put in a plastic bag and disposed of separately from other trash bags.
- Make sure charcoal and ash are cooled down prior to disposal.
- Return medical needles to the base clinic in an approved biohazard container. Contact Medical Laboratory at 225- 3551.
- Contact the base CE Environmental or Maintenance Engineering at 225-5440/225-8124 for flammable items (i.e. charcoal fluid, mower gasoline, cooking oils, etc.) for proper disposal.
Bulky Waste Pick-up Schedule
Garden Houses: Curbside pick up for large bulk items are provided every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Items must be placed on the curbside, only along the street, which is the main entrance to your quarters, after 1800 hours on the day preceding pick-up or before 0800 hours on the day of pick-up.

Towers: Large bulk items are placed in the basement.

Off-base U.S. Residents
Off-base US residents need to follow local municipalities' rules to dispose of trash. Bilingual brochures are available at City Office and the base Housing Office at 225-9261.
