Calling in air support

PADANG, Indonesia -- A U.S. Air Force combat controller from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron at Kadena Air Base, Japan, (left) and two U.S. Marines relay air traffic control information to incoming U.S. aircraft landing at Tangbing Airfield here Oct. 9. The airfield's ATC tower was severely damaged during the Sept. 30 earthquake which struck here, effectively stopping the flow of aircraft. Combat controllers and Marines continue to provide ATC capabilities to allow U.S., Australian and Indonesian aircraft to transfer humanitarian supplies into the region.
