Divert to Yokota
YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- The second of two Northwest Airlines Boeing 747 Freighters lands March 23 at the base after being diverted following the crash of a FedEx MD-11 cargo plane at Narita International Airport. The crash, which killed the pilot and co-pilot, forced the closure of one of the airport's two runways. It was the first deadly crash at Narita -- the main air hub for international flights to Tokyo -- since the airport opened in 1978. (U.S. Air Force photo/Osakabe Yasuo)
