Yokota History Article Part 6: The Kanto Plain Consolidation Plan, 1971-79
A 19 April 1977 aerial photo of Yokota's east side depicting the scope of KPCP development. Apart from the hangars and small buildings center-left, and the metal building at the bottom, all of the structures in this view were newly built under KPCP. The tower apartments, East Chapel, East Elementary School (now Mendel Elementary), movie theater, fire station, water tower, gym, and garden housing units. Even the roads and parking lots were new. The body of water in the center, today the location of a park, was an old sump used for rainwater runoff until being filled in soon after this photo was taken.
