374th CES performs aircraft arresting barrier system certification tests
YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- Senior Airman Peter Beyer, 374th Civil Engineer Squadron, inspects a 1,200 foot strap used to stop aircraft during an annual aircraft arresting barrier system test at Yokota Air Base, Japan, July 13, 2011. The system is used in the event of an emergency where a fighter or similar aircraft cannot stop on its own. A tailhook catches the cable stretched across the runway and massive hydraulic reels slowly bring the aircraft to a stop. (U.S. Air Force photo/Osakabe Yasuo)
