With the upcoming exercise, the 374th Airlift Wing Safety Office wants to encourage people to make safe decisions.

Though safety is a concern all year, individuals may be put in situations or equipment they are not accustomed to working in.

"Although the purpose of the exercise is compliance and mission accomplishment, safety should be everyone's number one priority," said Master Sgt. Shuntesia Dupree, 374 AW Safety.

When approaching a situation the safety office asks for people to keep in mind the basics of safety; risk management, visibility, fatigue, weather, personal protective equipment and the wingman concept.

"Often times we participate in events and don't fully think about, or we overlook what is required to successfully accomplish the task. That's when we find ourselves in situations that could have been avoided if we had taken the time to plan properly," Dupree said.

If a person witnesses an accident, they should contact Security Forces immediately by calling 911 from a DSN or an Allied Telesis home phone. From a cell phone, they will need to dial the base operator at 042-552-2510 then dial 911. If the incident happens off base they can still call the base operator to be transferred to 911 or dial 119 to reach the Japanese police. Individuals should also standby to provide a statement to the emergency officials.

"Safety is everyone's concern," said Dupree. "Everyone needs to take control measures to make sure we come out of the exercise mishap free."
